TD Garden was a long time overdue. Though the original Boston Garden was an iconic venue, it opened way back in the 1920s, and by the late 1970s, it was already showing its age. The Boston Bruins were the driving force behind a new arena, almost moving to Salem, New Hampshire, at one stage as potential development sites in Boston kept falling through.

Eventually, a site and funding for a new stadium were found. The arena that would become TD Garden began construction in 1993 and opened in 1995 with performances from the Boston Pops, James Taylor, and Disney on Ice. The FleetCenter operated for 10 years before naming rights changed hands.

This was the beginning of a fun period. To make money for charity while a new naming rights sponsor was found, a series of auctions were held on eBay to give people the rights to name the venue for a day. This is why TD Garden has had 33 different names, and it is also why it was almost called the 'Derek Jeter Center' for a day until that bid was rejected because Jeter is a New York Yankees legend.

TD Garden has hosted three NBA Finals series, three NHL Finals series, boxing matches, MMA events, and many other sporting contests. It is also a major player on the Boston concert scene, and in 2023 the likes of Drake, Madonna, Sam Smith, and Queen & Adam Lambert will be among many bands/artists taking the stage.
